Dear New Golf Club Member,
On behalf of the Members and the Committee we would like to welcome you to The Manor of Groves Golf and Country Club.
The Manor of Groves Hotel Golf and Country Club is a proprietary Club and as such the Committees’ responsibilities only relate to the running of competitions and managing handicaps. We do, nonetheless, maintain close links with the Manor of Groves management and meet regularly with them to discuss areas of mutual concern.
The Committee arranges competitions for both the able and less able golfer, mixed competitions, team competitions and social events.
There are monthly and midweek medals and stablefords throughout the year, ‘board competitions’ and team competitions regularly take place and ‘Grovers’ takes place on Thursday evenings between April and October for golf, food and a chance to drink with friends. The Seniors meet on a Wednesday morning from 8:30 and the Ladies from 9:00 on a Tuesday.
This note is to give you information about how to obtain a handicap, if you do not have one, or transfer it from a previous club. It also provides information about Competitions held at the Club.
HANDICAPS
In order to play in competitions you need a handicap.
If you have a handicap from a previous golf club or golf society, please obtain a copy of either your handicap certificate, playing record or a note from an official. Either place the information in the scorecard box in the main bar or give it to reception. Your handicap will then be added to the handicap list.
If you do not have a handicap, place at least three score cards signed by both you and a marker, preferably a Member of the Club, and place them in the scorecard box in the main bar. Please put your Membership Number on each scorecard. And indicate whether you played from the white, yellow or red tees.
Once your handicap has been assessed it will be added to the handicap list.

COMPETITIONS
We hold a variety of competitions at the Manor of Groves. Each month we hold Monthly Medals or Monthly Stablefords played both on a Saturday and Sunday (and Tuesdays for lady member) and Midweek Medals and Stablefords for men on Wednedays. Other competitions including Board Competitions, social, team and other competitions take place regularly throughout the year.
Medals & Stablefords
These are not advertised by notices but are listed in the Club Diary. Men, Ladies and Juniors all enter on the touch screen in reception.
Board Competitions
These are advertised by notice approximately six weeks before each event. Each notice will give the conditions relating to the competition.
Entries can either be made online or via the touch screen in reception.
Notices relating to Ladies’ Competitions will be posted on notice boards in the ladies changing room. Entries can either be made online or via the touch screen in reception.
Mixed and Other Competitions
These are advertised by notice approximately six weeks before the event. Notices will be posted on the notice board in the main bar or on e mails
